Plant Varieties and Seeds Strategy

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, alongside devolved governments, is implementing England's Precision Breeding Act and developing a regulatory framework for precision-bred plant varieties and seeds to bring genetically modified crops to market faster than EU processes. The strategy seeks a targeted exemption from EU SPS agreement negotiations and aims to capitalize on the UK's first-mover advantage before EU genomic technology frameworks are finalized.
