Hillsborough Law Bill
The government has introduced the Public Office (Accountability) Bill, known as the Hillsborough Law, into Parliament.
The Ministry of Justice is establishing an Independent Public Advocate role to provide statutory oversight and representation for vulnerable populations, particularly older people, children in care, and disabled children in residential settings. This responds to recommendations from multiple independent reviews and aims to create a unified mechanism for independent advocacy with authority to scrutinise public bodies and government decisions.
