Highly Protected Marine Areas Designation

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs is designating Highly Protected Marine Areas (HPMAs) as part of the UK's commitment to the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Agreement and the 30by30 target (30% marine protection by 2030). The government is considering expanding HPMA coverage to 10% of UK waters and using the Marine Recovery Fund to support new designations.
