An assessment of the effect that the revised guidance on ‘Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education (for introduction 1 September 2026)’ will have on groups with relevant protected characteristics.

The relevant protected characteristics, identified in the Equality Act 2010, include:

  • disability
  • gender reassignment
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race
  • religion or belief
  • sex and sexual orientation

The Department for Education has responded to a consultation on a review of statutory guidance on RSHE.
