Self-driving vehicles: public perceptions and effective communication

How people view self-driving vehicles and how to effectively communicate safety information about them.

Research into public perceptions of self-driving vehicles (SDVs). The research is presented across 2 reports. The aims of the research were to understand:

  • how to communicate safety information about SDVs effectively
  • how different types of exposure to SDVs can influence awareness and understanding
  • the role citizens see for SDVs in a future transport system

The research used electroencephalography (EEG) to provide real-time insights into people’s experience of SDVs. The EEG study document provides more detail on that.
