The Royal Charter forms the constitutional basis of the BBC and its current Charter is due to expire at the end of 2016.

Following evidence gathering, which has included a public consultation, 16 focus groups, 12 in-depth interviews, two independent reports, and engagement with 300 stakeholders, the Government is publishing a white paper detailing its proposals for the BBC.
