National Minimum Wage: response to the Low Pay Commission’s Autumn 2016 report

Provides the government's responses to the Low Pay Commission recommendations on National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates.

Explains the government’s responses to the Low Pay Commission (LPC) recommendations. The LPC has recommended that the hourly rates should increase in April 2017:

  • from £7.20 to £7.50 for workers aged 25 and over (the National Living Wage)
  • from £6.95 to £7.05 for workers aged 21 to 24
  • from £5.55 to £5.60 for workers aged 18 to 20
  • from £4.00 to £4.05 for workers aged under 18
  • from £3.40 to £3.50 for apprentices

The government accepts these recommendations.
