The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigates certain potential mergers and assesses how they could impact competition in the UK.

We can only investigate a merger if it meets certain legal criteria. If it does, we can take evidence-based, proportionate action to protect competition, deliver growth and promote better outcomes for UK consumers.

This page includes:

  • an overview of how many mergers we investigated, and their outcomes, in the full calendar years from 2023 to 2025

  • the outcomes of all merger investigations completed in each financial year, from 1 April 2004 to the latest full month

Visit the CMA case finder for a list of CMA investigations.
