Getting Great Britain building again: Speeding up infrastructure delivery

The prospectus sets out why we need to go further than the existing programme of reform for infrastructure, and how our new approach will bear down on the drivers of delay, high costs and inefficiency.

Great Britain has built and maintained one of the most advanced infrastructure networks in the world, but to keep up with the demands of changing technologies and the changing world, we must continue to improve our infrastructure network, upgrading it, and adding to it. We already have an advanced reform programme in place that is making a difference and tackling the blockers of delivery. Our system must work even better to encourage the delivery of infrastructure while building trust with communities.

This prospectus sets out how we will go further so that we can build the infrastructure of the future faster and cheaper, to prepare Great Britain for the challenges of the 2030s and 2040s, lay the foundations for the economic infrastructure of the future, and make sure that everyone across our country benefits in the opportunities ahead.

It outlines short-term, immediate actions to speed up the delivery of major infrastructure projects across the country, and where we will work with industry to develop a new, long-term set of proposals to tackle some of the fundamental issues. None of our approach will seek to reduce proper consideration of major infrastructure development and key environmental and community protections.
