This publication is the government’s response to the National Infrastructure Commission’s study ‘Electricity Distribution Networks: Creating capacity for the future’.

The NIC study gave 14 recommendations to government, Ofgem and NESO on the policy decisions needed to prepare the distribution network for net zero 2050. There are 8 thematic areas:

  • flexibility
  • maintaining the reliability of the network
  • strategic planning and role of Regional Energy Strategic Plans
  • price controls
  • the relationship between the government and Ofgem
  • connections
  • planning and consenting
  • supply chain and skills

For each thematic area the publication sets out the the NIC recommendations, government’s view, the next steps that will be taken and the action owner responsible for implementation.
